Digital Business Cards

klaurence 11 months ago in Innovative Ideas / Environmental Impact updated by Kara Reddig (Leader) 2 months ago 1

I think we should consider cutting out paper business cards and offer employees and our contacts a digital business card option instead. This could reduce printing costs and spare the environment. I saw an example of such a thing here: https://www.mobilocard.com/

Staff Sports Teams

Matt Ruiz 11 months ago in Innovative Ideas / Employee Engagement updated by Kara Reddig (Leader) 2 months ago 1

CSD offer a number of Co-Ed sports activities such as Softball / Soccer / Basketball / Volleyball.  I think it would be a great idea if we - as a City - entered teams.

Failing that - can we have a way on ElkNet for people who want to play sports outside of work to find Teams / Teammates from within the City. I currently play on a Co-Ed soccer Team and we would love to recruit new team members - I am sure there are soccer players in the City who used to play / want to play again - it would be great if there was a way to find them!

It would be nice to have a digital sign where we currently hang banners at our beautiful Railroad Plaza.

Cost Benefit of Paper Towels vs. Hand Dryers

cpunsal 3 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Environmental Impact updated by Kara Reddig (Leader) 3 years ago 1

Paper towels are used to dry our hands and open bathroom doors around City Hall. A lot of paper towels are being used daily to open doors (which can be seen in a blue bin next to Public Works) and can also be found in urinals for some random reason. However, this was resolved with a blue bin next to the urinal.

The fact that people typically use at least two towels to dry their hands combined with the likelihood of pull out extra towels to open a the bathroom door and discard them can significantly increase the number of towels used. Towels must also be bagged and removed from the restroom on a regular basis, and any that have landed on the floor must be cleaned up.

Why not resolve it with a hand dryer and a "no touch door foot pull & commercial touchless door opener" tool for the two set of doors in the bathroom?

Additional EV Parking

skirchgessner 3 years ago in Innovative Ideas updated by Kara Reddig (Leader) 3 years ago 3

The existing EV parking stalls are always full and I have noticed a lot more electric and hybrid/vehicles in the parking lot. I would love to see the City install additional EV chargers in the parking lot for employees and the public. This would encourage people to make their next vehicle an electric vehicle. It would also be a great if City Hall could be an example to other business to encourage them to install chargers for their employees.

Thanks for the feedback!  I'll pass this along to Vanessa, who schedules the trucks, and see if we can get them (or a similar truck) out more often.

Cybersecurity Training/Class for Personal Data Protection

Rodney Mort 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Training updated by alecjaxob 5 years ago 2

As we've all seen in the news and witnessed firsthand with recent cybersecurity events involving City staff there are bad people out there trying to do bad things with technology.  Being in the IT department I deal with a lot of technology security for work-related systems.  But when I have conversations with people there seems to be a lot of interest and questions about protecting their personal data and I think many staff would appreciate a class or training on this topic.

City staff has already recently been required to take online cybersecurity training focusing on basic security knowledge and especially email phishing and this was great training.

For this new training/class I would envision it adding more knowledge and focusing on personal data protection and could include the following:

  • Why is it important to use a completely different password for every online account you use?
  • What makes a strong password?
  • What is a password manager and why should you use one?
  • Demonstration of some popular password manager apps used from an app on your phone, built in to your phone's keyboard, and used from a web browser plug-in.  Also demonstrating how password managers can allow you to use completely randomized passwords for every account.
  • What is multi factor authentication (aka 2 factor authentication) and why should you use it for your most important accounts like online banking, online financial websites, password managers, and personal email accounts?
  • Why is it so important to secure your personal email account?
  • Acknowledging that these security measures are not as convenient but they are worth it.

Music in the Restrooms

cmonti 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Employee Engagement updated by anonymous 5 years ago 1

It was suggested in conversation that there be music in the restrooms. It would help improve employee relationships by not having to hear their business :) But really. It's a good idea. Maybe this could be in the public lobby areas too, if desired.
