Directional Signage

vmcgill 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Organization Communication updated by Christopher Jordan (Leader) 5 years ago 1

I think directional signage upstairs similar to what is in the lobby would be very helpful for folks sent up to meetings or for those who head upstairs without checking in at reception. This would make it easier for outside folks looking for the PW counter, looking to pay for their E Tran connect cards and more convenient for staff when directing folks upstairs for any reason.
Very minimal information would be needed:
Public Works Counter (Left)
Connect Cards (Left)
Conference Rooms 3B and 3C (Right)
The overhead signs are often over looked.
I think the best location would be just outside the hall to the restrooms so someone walking upstairs or coming off the elevator will see it.

Bring Your Child to Work Day

An Inspired User 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Employee Engagement updated 5 years ago 2

Have a day designated for "bring your child to work day" similar to the state offices. I personally have a 6 year old who has gone with my mother in law to work but has asked why she can't ever come with me.

Suggestion System

Create a new platform for collecting ideas from employees.  The new system should allow others to see the ideas and vote for them.

Improved Amenities for Employees - Health and Wellness

Anonymous 5 years ago in Challenges updated by Christopher Jordan (Leader) 5 years ago 3
As an active participant of the City's Wellness Program, there are some programs that I would like to participate in during lunch. However, it is quite hard to participate since employees would need to "freshen" up. Though we have showers downstairs, the conditions of the showers are poor. The shower curtains have soap scum, lockers are all locked, used towels, clothing and the homeless using the showers. There are times that I need to use the shower and it was not a pleasant experience.

I would like to recommend that this area be given a "face lift" so employees who want to participate in various wellness programs can freshen up before going back to work. This includes a new shower curtain, soap, conditioner, shampoo, lockers with assigned locks by facilities, towel service, a lock to the stall to prevent the public from using it.

Improve the outdoor patio with shade sail(s) (rather than umbrellas, as these are less effective).

Project and Development Tours of Elk Grove for Employees

An Inspired User 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Employee Engagement updated by Christopher Jordan (Leader) 5 years ago 1

I think it would be extremely beneficial to provide a tour of the City to the employees, highlighting new projects and developments.

I was fortunate to participate on a tour given by the Economic Development Department; my group spent about an hour on a bus, learning about new and potential projects in the City. We travelled throughout Elk Grove, passing by empty fields to learn about zoning and construction plans, office buildings under construction to learn about new State offices moving to Elk Grove, and small business to learn about grants and funding opportunities.

It would be fantastic if on a quarterly basis, interested employees could sign up and go on an hour – long bus tour around the city. This tour would help employees from all departments stay current on city projects and would ensure, to an extent that employees were relaying correct information about projects to the public.

Move HR Benefits Administration to Online Platform

I think we should look at the benefits administration from enrollment/changes/declination and separation and find an application that is HIPPA complaint and allows users and HR to automate the entire process.

City Employee Bike Share

An Inspired User 5 years ago in Innovative Ideas / Environmental Impact updated by Christopher Jordan (Leader) 5 years ago 1

Purchase several City branded bikes for employees to use during work. Employees could check out bikes (and helmets) for use on breaks or lunch for exercise, lunch, errands or other purposes. This could be a pilot program to see how a bike share program could work in a corporate environment.

Digital Business Cards

I think we should consider cutting out paper business cards and offer employees and our contacts a digital business card option instead. This could reduce printing costs and spare the environment. I saw an example of such a thing here: https://www.mobilocard.com/
